The Catholic Defender: Who Owns The Rainbow

Covenant (1)God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: ‘Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 9:1).” God re-establishes man’s dominance over all the earth (Genesis 1:26, Genesis 9:2-3), as well as the call to Multiply (Genesis 1:28, Genesis 9:1).

With Noah, God resets his creation with the promise of a new covenant, “I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth.” God added, ‘This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you: I set my bow (rainbow) in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow (rainbow) appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings. As the bow (rainbow) appears in the clouds, I will see it and recall the everlasting covenant that I have established between God and all living beings–all mortal creatures that are on earth. God told Noah: ‘This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on the earth.” Genesis 9:1-17

Noah 1This covenant that God makes with Noah is the first since the fall of Adam and Eve. God is re-establishing his relationship with man and the rainbow is the sign of this everlasting covenant. As a child growing up, this story of Noah and the Ark was very basic, God spared His creation giving the rainbow as the sign of this covenant.

Let me ask you what sign does the rainbow represent that most young people today would identify with? Is it the covenant with Noah? No, not hardly, it is the sign or the flag of the Gay Agenda. This is not the only sign the Homosexual movement has taken to identify themselves.

The Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus is often times seen as an advocate representing the people of God. This has always been what the Old Testament Queens of Israel had done. The Holy Spirit is referred to by Jesus as the advocate that will keep the Church in line with the Lord’s teachings (John 14:26, 15:26). 1 John 2:1-2 also refers to Jesus as the advocate before the Father.

For Christians, Mary is seen as an advocate before the Lord, Jesus is seen as the advocate before the Father, and the Holy Spirit is seen as the advocate for the Church. However, like the Homosexual movement has tried to hijack the sign of the covenant, they are also trying to hijack who and what the advocate is.

Gay footballOne of the major homosexual publications goes by the name “”. This publican even calls Pope Francis their “Person of the Year” because they are trying to twist his words as if he was accepting the Gay Agenda. They will not be so elated with the Pope after his words at the end of the recent synod on the family. What the Homosexual advocacy groups is doing is what the Secularist have always attempted to do, to water down the religious foundations of our Country and form them into their own identities.

What these pro-homosexual groups do is go after any residual spark where religious freedom is still practiced and attacks them using Judicial activism, the media, and the ignorance of the low information crowd. One of the stories I noticed on their publication, “Advocate” features Vegas Elvis Chapel not marrying Gays. The purpose? To get Gay activist motivated to begin working on forcing a change.

With the Secularizing of America, these tactics employed by the Gay Agenda are in step with how the Atheists, the Muslims, and the Non-religious have been pushing what looks like Socialism, Communism, and Marxism into this Country. All of it is to ware down the foundations of America.

The Catholic Church and others have been on the receiving end of attacks by the Progressive Movement in the United States going back to the time of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Government take over of healthcare, the destruction of the traditional family, and the changing of our laws and foundations has used Public schools and higher education as a principle means to change the format of America.

If America had been taken over by a foreign power, this takeover would simply employ the same tactics using  propaganda that would  deconstruct Americans stand on freedom.  They would employ using re-education camps brainwashing young people to accept the enemy takeover.  The encouragement to use drugs, anything that can help alter and ease mind control to facilitate the takeover of America.  Remember the movie Red Dawn anyone?

Noah 2The battle lines are drawn, in Texas, we have the Mayor of Houston who has called for Christian Leaders to turn over their sermons and homilies over to the city government so they can inspect what they preach?

On Sept. 25, 2014, a resolution was passed by the local city council, (which was not passed by the people of Austin) for rainbow crosswalks on Bettie Naylor and 4th street. This is just another measure that the Gay Agenda is receiving support by a few people. Just like the upcoming St. Patrick’s Parade, the Gay Agenda is becoming more and more pushed by the ultra-left Progressive movement.

Throughout the Country, Christians are finding themselves on the short end of the stick going head to head with the Gay Agenda, from calling the Gay lifestyle a sin, to actually making cakes, taking pictures, and being forced to marry them.

The Gay Agenda wants to make it a crime if Ministers are not willing to marry homosexuals. This is a great attack on religious liberty and freedom in following what the Church has always taught. The Church needs to wake up, I hope that the actions taken in Oklahoma City recently that sparked outrage over a “Black Mass” will become more and more open as Christians take a stand for our Constitutional rights.

Noah 3Houston’s Mayor is a practicing lesbian, she continues to flaunt her sexuality with no fear from the voter. They depend so much on the low information or “I don’t care” crowds.

Senator Reid and the Democrats have already put into motion to strip the 1st Amendment of the Constitution away from the American people, they will want to take the bible out of public life and eventually out of our homes. Is this a scare tactic? No, not at all, this is a real threat.  If the Democrats maintain power in the Senate, look out.

How do we face this threat? I love the story coming out of Tennessee that the Secularist attacked a local high school for have the a prayer before the football game. Something that was part of the tradition of the school going back 80 years. So, all that was offered from the PA announcer was a moment of silence. That is when a young girl on the cheer-leading team began to pray the Lord’s Prayer, quickly she was joined by her mates, then the football team, then the opposing football team, then the crowd in the stands.

That is a great example and how the sleeping giant can wake up to be a great bear, a great lion that will stand up for our religious rights and freedoms that have been trampled upon now by the radical left.

Church, where are you at in your communities? Are you hiding under a rock wishing the bad to go away, complaining how bad it is getting, wishing someone will do something? Like the brave cheer-leaders who challenged the Secularist in the open, we too need to come out into the open. First by voting in people who will stand up against the Progressives and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party itself have been hijacked by the ultra-left. It is no longer the peoples party that represented the common man, but it has taken on the special interest of the ultra-left agenda.

ronald-reaganThen we need to challenge lawfully those who seek to take away our fundamental rights, to teach our children the true history of our Nation, to love the meaning of our flag, to stand up for the Constitution of the United States of America. President Ronald Reagan warned: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

So, Church, we have the power to vote, the power to pray, and the power to act (lawfully) to stand up against those who seek to destroy faith in America.

I for one, will hold fast to the original sign of the rainbow that God gave the world through Noah. The rainbow represents the first covenant God makes with mankind since the fall of man. It is important that the Church of the living God lift high the banner of Christ.

Editor update: America has past from having the choice of either Nineveh or Sodom. The Supreme Court and the Obama Administration has chosen Sodom. Heaven help America.

The Catholic Defender: The Jump Rope Rosary

dthg11The past few weeks I have been in the great State of Missouri spending time with my Father who has been critically ill. I want to thank everyone who has prayed for my Father. He has been improving.

I have also spent the past week helping my Wife set herself up in Trenton Missouri where she is serving at a local hospital working as a travel nurse.

Unfortunately, because I have been in Missouri for the most part, and especially in Stanton the past week, my phone service has not been available and so I’ve been largely out of the net, literally.

In fr5215Trenton, surrounding the High School, there is a track that runs about a mile and a half that people walk, run, and ride bikes. I found myself committing myself using this space bringing my jump rope where I can pray my Rosary early in the morning.

When going on this track, you never know who you are going to meet, I met a gentleman who was walking the track with a cane. He was 93 years young and he told me that this very month (June 2015) he was celebrating his 73rd wedding anniversary.

I met another lady who was walking the course that happened to be a Mormon Missionary. She had intended to reach out to me, but I beat her on the draw for the Catholic Faith!

At another time I met another person who was a Southern Baptist Missionary who recently just returned from the Ukraine. It was another opportunity to plant seeds for the Catholic Faith.

0Looking at the title of this article, you might be wondering what a “jump rope Rosary” might be. I would begin my journey around this track with 50 jump ropes (not a large Rosary (lol) then I would begin my Rosary with the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles Creed.

Once I prayed through the Oh My Jesus Fatima prayer, then I would knock out another 50 jump rope. I then would begin each decade as normal finishing with another 50 more jump rope. By the time I finish my prayer, I would go three miles and conduct 400 jump rope.

I can certainly do much more if I want to get really involved, flutter kicks, push ups and other exercises. In doing this, I wanted to spiritually pray for the Rosary Patrol dedications and all the requests people are asking for prayer.

rosary_patrol800x600In a unique way, I felt that I was living 1 Timothy 4:7-9, “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself for religion. Physical exercise is useful enough, but the usefulness of religion is unlimited, since it holds out promise both for life here and now and for the life to come.”

The next 12 weeks or so, I will be participating in a couple of Conferences with Dr. Gregory Thompson, spending more time with my Father, and prepare for our ultimate move to Huntsville Alabama in September.

The Catholic Defender: The Miracle of Corpus Christi

CD-and-GregRecently, the Catholic Church celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi, something that is not new in the Church calender. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which has the meaning, “House of Bread” and this points to who Jesus is as the “Bread of Life”. “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”

The bread of the presence (Old Testament), was the shadow of what was to come. Jesus has come and we have the Eucharist that was given to us as the New and Everlasting Covenant. In the history of the Catholic Church, there have been many miracles where Jesus reveals His Presence as the Bread of Life. Dr. Gregory Thompson and I focus on Eucharistic Miracles and it is interesting to note just how many have taken place during the time of Corpus Christi. The following are just some examples that have taken place:

Eucharistic Miracle of Ponferrada, SPAIN, 1533

MNY323229In the miracle of Ponferrada, Juan De Benavente decided to steal the tabernacle containing a precious silver ciborium with numerous consecrated Hosts inside from his very own parish. With only the passing of time and miraculous circumstances the recovery of the stolen Hosts, which remained perfectly intact, was made possible.

Juan De Benavente lived in Ponferrada with his wife. It was apparent that he was very devout and religious. In fact every evening he stopped in church to pray. One day, during his prayer time, he succumbed to greed and seized the tabernacle, a simple wooden container, in which there was a precious silver ciborium containing some consecrated Hosts.

He fled from the church and headed towards the Sil River in order to pitch the cheap wooden tabernacle, but when he tried to launch it into the water he could not because of its sudden immense weight. So he returned home where he hid everything and said nothing to his wife. During the night continuous flashes of light came from the tabernacle, arousing the suspicion of his wife. So Juan decided to go out and dispose of his sacrilegious stolen goods.

He reached a place the townspeople called the Arenal Field and threw the tabernacle and consecrated Hosts into the middle of the blackberry patch. The discovery of the crime brought dismay among all of the population and Juan became increasingly nervous and anxious, also because he did not know how to sell the silver ciborium without getting caught.

Near the Arenal Field, the owner of the land, Diego Nuñez de Losada, set up a target practice for entertainment during the feast days. During the time frame in which the sacred Hosts were still in the blackberry patch, eyewitnesses reported seeing flashes of light at night and strange doves hovering during the day. The crossbowmen tried in vain to hit the doves. The miller Nogaledo decided then to capture the doves with his own hands and ventured into the blackberry patch, discovering the tabernacle and the sacred Hosts from where the intense flashes of light originated.

Disturbed, he went straight towards the church where the bells were ringing in the distance. The return of the sacred Hosts was organized with a solemn procession. Juan was overcome with remorse and decided to admit his guilt.

In the place where the miraculous Hosts were recovered a chapel was immediately constructed. In 1570 the parish priest planned the expansion of the building and instituted a solemn annual procession on the eighth day of the Feast of Corpus Christi in memory of the miracle.

Eucharistic Miracle of Bagno di Romagna, Italy 1412

bagno-2In 1412, the prior of the Basilica of St. Mary of Bagno di Romagna, Fr. Lazzaro da Verona, while celebrating the Holy Mass, was assailed by doubts about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament. He had just pronounced the words of consecration of the wine when this was transformed into living Blood and began to flow from the chalice and fall onto the corporal. Fr. Lazzaro, profoundly moved and repentant, confessed his unbelief to the faithful present at the celebration and the profound miracle that the Lord had worked before his eyes.

At Bagno di Romagna, in the Basilica of St. Mary Assumed, the relic of the Eucharistic miracle of the “Holy Cloth Soaked by Blood” is preserved. The historian Fortunio thus describes the miracle in his noted work Annales Camalduenses: “It was the year 1412. The Camaldolese Abbey of Santa Maria in Bagno (then Priorato) was governed by Don Lorenzo, of Venetian origin. While he was celebrating the Divine Sacrifice, he mentally experienced, by diabolical influence, a strong doubt concerning the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament; when he then saw the Sacred Species of the wine flow over the chalice and fall onto the corporal in the form of living Blood, and thus the corporal remained soaked. It cannot be told how great was his emotion and perturbation of mind in that instant in the face of such a profound event. In tears, he turned to the bystanders, confessing his unbelief and the miracle which now had taken place before his eyes.”

The monk Lazzaro was then transferred to Bologna as chaplain of the female Camaldolese convent of St. Christine, where he died in 1416. The Camaldolese held the Parish of Bagno until the Napoleonic suppression of 1808; from then the Parish-Basilica of St. Mary Assumed, after having been held for a brief period by the diocese of Sansepolcro, in 1975 passed definitively to become part of the diocese of Cesena.

In 1912, Cardinal Gilio Boschi, Archbishop of Ferrara, celebrated the fifth centenary of the miracle, which was followed by a conference on Eucharistic studies. In 1958, His Excellency Domenico Bornigia, had a chemical analysis done on the marks of the corporal of the miracle at the University of Florence, which confirmed them to be of an ematic nature.

In the basilica is found a colored and very rare incision on wood from 1400 called “The Madonna of the Blood,” which is found in the third chapel on the left. This image is thus named because, as Benedetto Tenaci, abbot of Bagno and eye witness of the miracle on May 20, 1948, tells us, the icon bled from the left arm.

Every year, during the Feast of Corpus Christi, the corporal is carried in procession through the streets of the city and is exposed on every Sunday of the temperate season which lasts from March to November, at the Mass celebrated at 11 AM.

The Eucharistic Miracle of Canosio Italy 1630

Eucharistic-4The scene is Canosio Italy, a small village centered in the Diocese of Saluzzo in the Val Maira region. In 1630 the Calvinist heresy was trying to gain a foot hold among the people there. Because of the division, the people’s faith was challenged and their moral was low. Religious ignorance and persecution can do that to any nation.

The celebration of Corpus Christi had just been completed the day before when a terrible flood came to Maira as the result of a torrential rainfall. The river flowing through the town over flowed it’s banks causing serious flooding.

The flood waters washed away large stones from the base of the mountains causing massive mudslides and damage that threatened Canosio. This was the scene that Father Antonio Reinardi found his Parish in.

Speaking for the people in procession, Father Reinardi made a solemn vow to the Lord that if the Canosio were saved from the destruction of the flood, he would begin leading the people celebrating a perpetual annual feast of Corpus Christi.

Father Reinardi leading the procession with the Blessed Sacrament praying the “Miserere” (“Miserere mei, Deus, Latin for “Have mercy on me, O God”) which was composed by then Pope Urban VIII! It is taken from Psalms 51!

As the procession came closer to the raging flood waters they prayed as they moved on when Father blessed the area with the Monstrance. At that moment, all at once the rain just stopped and the flood waters receded back to their normal level. This scene so revived the local people of Canosio that even to this day since 1630, they have kept their vow celebrating and observing what the Lord did this day.

Eucharistic Miracle of Krakow Poland 1345

CasimirThe Eucharistic miracle of Krakow relates to consecrated Hosts that emitted an unusual bright light when they were hidden by thieves in a muddy marsh. The thieves had stolen a monstrance containing consecrated Hosts from a church in the village of Wawel (outside of modern-day Krakow). They ultimately abandoned the monstrance and Hosts in a marsh outside of the village, where the miracle took place. The Church of Corpus Christi in Krakow, Poland contains paintings depicting the miracle as well as documents and depositions relating to the matter.

In the year 1345, King Casimar III the Great of Poland gave orders to build a church named Corpus Christi in honor of the Eucharistic miracle that was verified that same year. It had taken place in the village of Wawel, near Krakow. Some thieves broke into a little church (The Collegiate Church of All Saints), which was a short distance from Krakow. They forced their way into the tabernacle and stole the monstrance, which contained consecrated Hosts.

They got away, but when they figured out that the monstrance was not made of real gold, they threw it (including the Hosts) into the muddy marshland that was prevalent in the area. Priests from the church began a search, but they did not hold out much hope. When darkness fell, however, a mysterious light emanated from the spot where the treasure had been abandoned. Bright flashes of light were visible for several kilometers.

Frightened villagers approached the area and reported back to the Bishop of Krakow. The bishop called for three days of fasting and prayer. On the third day, he led a procession out to the marsh. There, they found the monstrance, and within it they found the Hosts, which were unbroken and were the source of the unusual lights. The people began to pray and to celebrate the miracle.

Annually on the occasion of the feast of Corpus Christi, the miracle is celebrated in the church of Corpus Christi in Krakow.

IMG_1053These are but a small number of such miracles. Dr. Gregory Thompson will be speaking on the subject of Eucharistic Miracles near Kansas City Missouri. It will be held in Blue Springs at St. John La Lande Catholic Church. This is where I went to grade school going back to 1963 through my grade school years. I was Baptized, received my first Holy Communion, and was Confirmed there. I am looking forward for the Conference (June 19-20, 2015)!

“We have in the beginning of the 2nd letter to the Corinthians today (2 Cor 1:1-7). St. Paul begins most of his letters with a beautiful greeting: “Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God… grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Grace and peace: St. Thomas Aquinas states, “Grace is the first good, because it is the source of all good things… The last of all good things is peace, because it is the general goal of the mind… peace has the sense of ‘end.”

That’s a greeting we start Mass with: Grace to you and peace… with both our beginning and our final end in mind. Our beginning and our end: In the middle of all that we have to endure suffering. Because that’s what Christ did, and Paul, his Apostle, by the will of God.

paul heals man at lystraWhy did Paul have to reiterate he was an Apostle by the will of God? Because people questioned his authority all the time: Paul? Who made him an Apostle? We don’t need Paul. It’s heartbreaking because Paul was so zealous. In his former life he hunted down Christians and did great harm to them. But afterwards he traveled the known world, facing all sorts of persecution, physical and mental. Many times he received beatings almost everywhere and often times went hungry and cold.

But his worst suffering had to be trying to corral the people inside the new Church that wanted to hop the fence and go do their own thing. Someone wrote that people, humans, are the real wild animals. The irrational animals, beast, never stray from their instincts. Yet, People often do. It’s people who are impossible to tame.

Paul is such an important figure because he understood that Christianity wouldn’t last without unity. He understood that we all needed to be on the same page, in the same corral, if we were to survive. Now look at today’s world! We see people hopping the fence everywhere. The Body of Christ is fractured in pieces so our enemies are having their way with us. The world’s hopping the fence and tries to convince itself that it is free, that it can do it own thing. But this is the great lie. Hopping the fence only makes you easy pickings for the predators hungry for your soul.

The Church, the Sacraments, the Commandments—they don’t chain us down, they keep us safe. They keep us truly free, yet at the same time we are slaves (servants). It’s our choice! Be a slave (servant) to Christ or hop the fence and be a slave to the world. Be a slave (servant) of Christ and we are assured by Paul that you will be encouraged in your afflictions; you’ll be given strength to endure. You’ll be given grace, the beginning, and the source of all good—that will bring you to your end—peace, the last of all good things.”

For many who have left the Church, the first foot out is their lack of faith or no faith in the Eucharist. How important it is that our faith is centered on His truth so that we continue to grow in His Light.

Which person are you? Are you the faithful servant whom the Lord invites, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me. I will give the victor the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself first won the victory and sit with my Father on his throne.”

Or will you be like the one whose fingers drops the ball and literally bury’s their faith in the back yard? It is called “Free Will”.

The Catholic Defender: Corpus Christi Defended

IMG_1385While in my travels across Missouri, I had the opportunity to work with people from across the Country who are strongly pro-life and work towards ending abortion.

There is a frustration that after 38 years, many politicians are “pro-life” to get the votes for political purposes.

The ending of abortion is not the primary mission to them as keeping the battle is giving them votes. We need to put a stop to abortion after 38 years and nearly 60,000,000 unborn children sacrificed to the god of convenience.

While staying at Jefferson City Missouri, we were staying with friends who had places for us to spend the night.

They also had great food prepared for all of the team speaking at the event. There are many people to thank for their hospitality and love supporting us ensuring that we were never in need on this journey. The food was really great everywhere we went before and after the Rally for Life on 22 January 2011 at Jefferson City at the Capital Building.

downloadIt was at one such dinner engagement that the following story develops.

As the Ladies were preparing dinner, I was sitting at the dining room table with a small group of people.

It is important to note that the vast majority of those present were Catholic, but there was this one Pentecostal friend who began to discuss his thoughts on the Catholic Church.

Being the Catholic Defender, what is the obvious response? You got it, a fun debate ensues.

As we began to enter into this discussion, people began to gather around because most of them have never heard a Catholic response to some of the Protestant accusations.

My Pentecostal friend was not an ignorant man. He was a Doctor very dedicated to his beliefs.

He also ran for office in the State of Ohio and lost by a small majority. He is a very articulate speaker.

But on this night, at this time, he had the misfortune of challenging the Catholic Defender in his own backyard (lol).

2988820050026936747qAHmgx_phDon’t you just love the rhetoric? His challenge was quick and to the point.

He felt that we, as Catholics, were “idol worshipers” because our belief in Jesus in the Eucharist. My first response to this was John 6:53-56, “Jesus said to them, ‘Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him”.

I shared with him that just as people in those days had problems with this teaching, many people today can’t accept this either.

His response was a bit odd to me, he began to reason that if you believe in transubstantiation, then you are in effect saying you are God?

That sense of reasoning made no sense to me. Especially coming from a Pentecostal who has no problem recognizing the Holy Spirit entering into people’s hearts.

I responded back to him the importance of the definition of transubstantiation and the 4th Lateran Council in 1215.

Brother-Sun-Sister-Moon-Pope-Innocent-III-6Not only was Pope Innocent III receiving St. Francis and St. Dominic, two future Saints, but he was having to also deal with heresies at that time.

Especially some of those who were attacking the apostolic teaching on the Eucharist.

New “gospels” developed by “Fr” John Huss and John Wycliffe challenged the Lord Jesus Christ denying the truths of the Catholic Church.

The problem wasn’t so much the vernacular version of the bible as much as it were the problems associated with misinterpreting the scriptures.

Those were tough times in those days as the common man still did not know how to read and write.

The ignorance of people made it difficult, so the priests were expected to teach the word as they have always done from the tradition of the Apostles.

Acts 2:42 states, “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers”.

IMG_2580That is the Mass! They did not carry bibles with them to Mass to hear the Apostles teach.

The Word was proclaimed to them. I also refereed to Matthew 28:19, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you”.

Jesus didn’t say to hand out bibles here, the Catholic Church hands out the scriptures to enrich us with the very sacred text itself.

In the beginning, this had to be developed just as the understanding of the apostolic witness.

The Church has no power to change the teachings of Christ. People who have took that upon themselves do so at their own peril.

The response to this was even more odd as my friend began to question how long does Christ remain in you. Is Christ present in waste.

That was a bit over the top to me, it is believed that the Lord’s presence leaves before that process.

Actually, his presence is spiritual once consumption was completed and dissolved into the body.

I took it to 1 Corinthians 11:16, “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ”?

The obvious answer is yes. By this time some of the women were gathering around listening in. I think they were there longer, but this was when I noticed we were gaining an audience behind me.

confession3I next went to 1 Corinthians 11:27-30, “Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number were dying”.

By this time, my Pentecostal friend began to recognize Christ was present in a “sense”.

I responded that Jesus was present totally, body, blood, soul, and divinity.

To illustrate this point, I moved to Luke 24:30, “And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight”.

emmaus__[1]I continued following verse 33-35, “So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, ‘The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon’! Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread”.

I shared a number of Eucharistic Miracles to show that we still recognize Jesus being made known to us through the “breaking of the bread”. He challenged me questioning if this happens at every Mass?

I responded, Yes! As a result of this opportunity to tell the truth, I was able to share with him this thought:

If we disagree on the truth of the Eucharist, it would be dishonest to call Catholics “idol worshipers” as you now understand what Catholics believe.

At this point another friend who had claimed to have left the Catholic Faith began to consider the points I was making. That was very important to me. Also several of the Ladies who had been listening in on the discussion all came to me wanting more on the Catholic Faith.

It was a great experience to share the truth of God’s holy Church! The Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ is an opportunity to receive Christ in the most personal way possible, “The Body of Christ”, “Amen”
