The Catholic Defender: St. Paul’s Street Evangelization Update

Posted by John Benko - September 9th, 2013

I am so excited what is taking place today in the Catholic Church.  This past year, we have seen early on the birth of St. Paul’s Street Evangelization that is already seeing great fruit.  Founder Steve Dawson and Paul Mathers have been two important figures in this early movement that is literally  taking the faith to the streets all across America.

Recently, the organization has been given a great blessing from Cardinal Burke at the Vatican for it’s efforts.

We have been given a Consecration Certificate from the Church to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Both are important miracles from Heaven.

Our Lord appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque giving us the 12 promises Our Lord gave her:

The Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary for those devoted to His Sacred Heart:

I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.

  1. I will establish peace in their families.
  2. I will console them in all their troubles.
  3. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of their death.
  4. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
  5. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.
  6. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
  7. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
  8. I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
  9. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts.
  10. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
  11. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.

Our Lady of Guadalupe represents a call to Evangelization, also a strong pro-life call for Christians of today.  The following is the Certification.

On Friday nights, deepertruth dedicates it’s show on Evangelization and I am thankful to have Jeff Hutchins of Texas as our co-host for the show.  He also is part of St. Paul’s Street Evangelization.  The following is from a show that Jeff was part of along with Tyler McNabb which tells of their conversion story to the Catholic Faith.

Best of DTB #267 The Catholic Defender: Catholics on the Streets of Dallas

Posted by John Benko - August 5th, 2013

Deepertruth and St. Paul’s Street Evangelization teams up in Dallas Texas.

Despite the 100 plus degree heat, it was a great day to share the Catholic Faith.

St Jude has some real advice stating, “Beloved, although I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I now feel a need to write to encourage you to contend for the faith that was once handed down to the holy ones. Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. ON THOSE WHO WAIVER, HAVE MERCY; SAVE OTHERS BY SNATCHING THEM OUT OF THE FIRE; ON OTHERS HAVE MERCY WITH FEAR, ABHORRING EVEN THE OUTER GARMENT STAINED BY THE FLESH” (Jude 3,21).

Paul Mathers (Local Leader of the St. Paul’s Street Evangelization team) writes, At times we had 2, 3, 4 groups of people walk by our table and we had several different conversations going on at the same time! We gave away 2 or 3 dozen rosaries this day and lots of pamphlets, and copies of Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth. It was a good day, although about 100 degrees and little air movement, but at least we had a bit of shade to work under.”

This is my favorite picture of the day because it gives an example of everyone being gainfully employed.  We had many people stop and talk with us.

It is amazing how much information is provided in the span of a few hours.  It seems like volumes.

I like the quote from Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta when she encouraged the Church reminding us that it is not our success that is most important, but our faithfulness.  That is so important to note, if we can help one person then this is all worth it.

Jesus Commands the Church to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Paul Mathers, “This is Sage. Sage is not a Catholic, yet. She said she was exploring the Catholic Faith. I spoke with her for a while and loaded her down with good reading materials. I gave her a card with my name and email. She lives in East Dallas not too far from me. I hope to get together with her to talk at length and get her in RCIA if that is what the Holy Spirit guides her to do. Pray for her conversion.”

What a great opportunity to reach people where they are at.  The Lord is calling us to do this kind of work to be his voice out on the street, to be his feet to go where he needs us.

To be his hands to reach out to those who are searching.  Sometimes this is within our own families.

St. Paul writes, “I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you o live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all”(Ephesians 4:1-5).
Paul Mathers “This person was an Agnostic. Tyler, who is moving to Scotland to get his Doctorate in Philosophy, was the perfect person to speak with. Tyler talked with this fellow at length about the existence of God and why we worship him in the Catholic Church.”

Tyler is a recent convert to the Catholic Faith and in the short time since his conversion has been active with St. Paul’s Street Evangelization.  Formerly based in a Calvinistic group, his story is really an inspiration.

This coming Wednesday evening, he will be giving his testimony live on Deepertruth.

This is a powerful story that will touch your heart.  Many of you might remember the debates we have had in the past with Calvinists.  This is a great story.

St. James echos this teaching, “My brothers, if anyone among you should stray from the truth and someone bring him back, he should know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20).

Paul Mathers “Jeff Hutchins, We are fortunate to have folks like Jeff, who converted from the Church of Christ 5 yrs ago.”

Jeff will also appear on Deepertruth this coming Wednesday evening to share his conversion story.  What a night this is to have two dynamite guys who both have inspiring story’s to tell.

I have had people ask us to do more conversion stories and here is a great opportunity.

This work is very important and how great it is knowing that what is happening here is also happening throughout the Country and abroad to other Countries.  This is becoming a great asset for the Church.

1 Corinthians 1:10 commands us, “I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be know divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and purpose”.

I had a great time spending the day in Dallas getting the chance to be a part of this great work despite when Paul snaps a picture (lol).

We spoke to many people who were Catholic and was glad to see us out there.  Many are not used to seeing Catholics on the street witnessing for the Catholic Faith.  We got some double looks for sure.

One guy was running past us when he suddenly stopped literally dropping his sunglasses to get a second look.  I picked up his sunglasses for him (lol).

We had people who had left the faith who were surprised to see us and some did stop to talk to us.  It was a great opportunity to plant seeds.  There were many non-Catholic who were glad to see us out there as well.  I encourage you to find where St. Paul’s Street Evangelization is setting up near you and get involved.  This will increase your faith.

The Catholic Defender: Catholics Team Up In Dallas

Posted by John Benko - June 10th, 2013

Today, Deepertruth, St. Paul’s Street Evangelization, and the Legion of Mary teamed up in the City of Dallas Texas.

It was a great day of taking the Gospel back to the Street. For me, it actually began Saturday evening Mass when I received the Eucharist.

After Mass, Father gave me a special blessing for the success of this Mission today.

What a great blessing it was to be a part of St. Paul’s Street Evangelization especially after looking at St Paul’s second reading today:

“I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

For you heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it, and progressed in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my race,
since I was even more a zealot for my ancestral traditions. But when God, who from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him to the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; rather, I went into Arabia and then returned to Damascus.

Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to confer with Cephas and remained with him for fifteen days. But I did not see any other of the apostles, only James the brother of the Lord.”

The gospel that St. Paul preached was echoed at the Klyde Warren Park followed by a late Mass at the Cathedral at 17:00.

The gospel preached today is not of human origin. It has been handed down by the Catholic Faith for nearly 2,000 years.

Consider something that St Paul said, “For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ”.

Have you ever heard someone tell you that they received a call to be a minister? This would be the position of most if not all Protestant ministers. Yet, I see a huge difference!

What did St. Paul do once he received his call? His conversion experience? He was baptized and received into the Catholic Church. The same Church that he defended his right to be an apostle (Galatians 1:1).

Today, we had the chance to witness to hundreds of people at the Park.

People would stop and ask us to pray with them, to pray for them.

We gave out at least a hundred rosaries, but there were many more that we were able to talk to.

Many of them were strong Catholics who already had their own rosaries.

There were also a large number who were not practicing their faith.  Even so, many of the parents did get a rosary for their children along with the information that was being distributed..

It was interesting that we were able to speak to members of the Seventh Day Adventist, Non-Denominational groups, Baptists, Atheists, and others, but there was never an issue of dispute or argument.  It was all very well done.

I had the opportunity to do several “range walks” going through the crowd with members of the team.  Everyone contributed and had a great time.

One of the people that we had the chance to talk with was a former Catholic.

He works in radio and after talking with him today, he is interested in looking into our Deepertruth BlogTalkRadio show.

He is definitely interested in coming back to the Catholic Faith.

What a great opportunity he would be as he speaks fluent Spanish.  More than that, we know that heaven rejoices when a Prodigal comes home.  This is the goal of every one out there today.

This is the kind of work that St. Paul’s Street Evanelization does throughout the Country and it is moving into other nations.  What a great sign for the Church as this is the year of Faith.  We have committed people who loves Our Lord, Our Lady, and the Catholic Faith.

It does not take a college degree at Bible University or to be a great theologian to be out there among the people.  All it takes is a serving heart seeking to do His will.  I had so much fun out there today and I think everyone else did too!

I want to ask you to pray for these events because it is for the Lord.  I have always viewed myself as a “first base coach” helping people to get on base.  The Priest is like “the third base coach” helping them run around third and on towards home plate.

It is a team effort and the Lord can use each and every one of us.  He is capable of taking our gifts He has given us and make good use of them.  Love is so important and should be the motivation.
